Philadelphia area unemployed homeowners rally at City Hall to continue the stay of 3,000 properties listed for a Sheriff's sale on April 5.
Protesters were angered over the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) delay to implement the Emergency Homeowner Loan Program (EHLP), a $1 billion program enacted by Congress to assist homeowners and to prevent foreclosure. EHLP funds, to be obligated by September 30, 2011, are to provide mortgage payment assistance of up to 24 months to homeowners who have had at least 14% drop in income due to involuntary unemployment or underemployment caused by adverse economic conditions, medical emergency or serious injury.
Philadelphia Unemployment Project (PUP) organized the rally.
